City of Dallas Breaks Ground For Buckner Park Renovations

Buckner Park

Dallas Park and Recreation will mark the start of a major park renovation with a groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 14 at Buckner Park, 4550 Worth St.

The popular east Dallas park, which is adjacent to a Dallas elementary school, will be completely redesigned, said city officials. Improvements estimated to cost close to $1.3 million will include a new playground, a mission-styled picnic pavilion, tennis court, and a walking path around a grassy meadow, irrigation and landscaping. Existing asphalt parking will be removed to create more lawn areas in the park.

Before the groundbreaking, Dallas Park and Recreation Director Willis Winters will outline the renovation project phases. Others who will share how the improvements will benefit the community and residents are Dallas City Council member Adam Medrano and Dallas Park and Recreation Board President Max Wells and Vice-President Jesse Moreno.

Following the ceremony, Friends of Buckner Park, neighborhood businesses, civic organizations and other area homeowners’ associations will host entertainment, music, food, and tennis lessons taught by Samuell-Grand Tennis Center pros for those attending the event.

Park officials said they expect construction to begin early next year. Monies from the 2006 bond program will fund most of the project costs. As part of a unique collaboration with the city, Dallas Independent School District will provide funding for the new playground and parking area.
