In the latest issue of Fiscal Notes, the Comptroller’s office examines the impact of student loan debt, estimated at an astonishing $1.51 trillion for the United States at the end of last year. We talk to education officials about the efforts needed to help Texas college students and families cope with the cost of education.
Our March issue also contains the second part of our two-part series on young Texans, focusing on the educational attainment needed to prosper in our rapidly evolving economy. We discuss new laws and programs intended to help ensure that our students get the education and training they need to find meaningful employment.
Note: As this issue went to press, a wave of coronavirus closings and dislocations began sweeping our state and the nation. This will have obvious effects on Texas government and the state’s economy. The Comptroller’s office is monitoring the situation closely; our next issue will make an initial report on the early impacts.
