The Texas Comptroller’s office is a busy place, where we handle the hundreds of tasks involved in acting as the state’s chief tax collector, accountant, revenue estimator and treasurer. We keep the books for the $100 billion annual enterprise of Texas state government — and pursue many other missions as well.
The October issue of Fiscal Notes takes a detailed look at the many jobs of the Comptroller’s office, from purchasing to tax audits to energy conservation grants. We also take a look at the impact of the “millennial” generation — those born between 1981 and 1997 — on our state and its economy. The millennials, now the nation’s largest generational group, have different expectations and work styles than their predecessors, and employers need to be aware of their unique outlook. In this issue, we also introduce a new feature — online-only content that provides a deeper look into our stories and topics. It’s our way of helping you get the most out of each issue. |
