Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts sent this bulletin at 07/12/2016 10:25 AM CDT|
Attention all users of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) Commodity Book The NIGP Commodity Book has undergone some recent changes. Vendors, purchasers and other procurement specialists who use the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ commodity book are strongly encouraged to review their NIGP code selections to ensure all codes are current and accurately reflect the goods or services that are being requested or offered. The changes include the retirement of several five-digit codes and revisions for punctuation and improved description of codes. The selection of retired codes was based on current public procurement practices and industry standards, as well as an attempt to consolidate established codes within the existing taxonomy. Further, to ensure all needs are captured in the taxonomy, 14 new five-digit codes have been added to the taxonomy. Examples of new items added include the following: Photo Identification Software, Orthopedic Veterinary Devices, Soap Making Materials and Supplies, Disposable Shoes and Sandals, Night Vision Devices and Athletic Field Groomers and Equipment. Information on the effective date and the changes are written in parentheses next to the codes in the Commodity Book index.
