As we celebrate Labor Day, we recognize the hard work and dedication of workers who keep Shelby County strong. That includes organized labor, which over the last century has brought us the weekend and the 40-hour work week and helped bring us fairer wages and safer working conditions.
I like to think of it as an opportunity not only to honor the contributions of working men and women but also to reflect on our shared responsibility to make our community fairer and safer. Here in Shelby County, that work takes many forms. From teachers and healthcare workers to small business owners and first responders, working families are the backbone of our community.
At the DA’s Office, my hardworking staff shares in that commitment by putting in the work to hold offenders accountable, support victims, and reduce the cycle of violence that impacts too many of our neighborhoods. Safer streets, stronger families, and healthier neighborhoods all come from people across Shelby County doing their part—and our office is proud to stand alongside you in that effort.
I wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Labor Day.

Bond Revoked in Fatal DUI Case After Defendant Arrested Again While Out on Release: On August 22, 2025, Judge Lee Coffee revoked the bond of Miron Robinson following a hearing on the State’s motion, successfully argued by ADA Shannon Mason. The court found that Robinson had violated his release conditions and posed an ongoing threat to public safety.
Robinson was initially indicted for Vehicular Homicide by Intoxication after causing a six-car crash on June 11, 2022, along Jackson Avenue, resulting in one death and serious injury to another victim. At the time, his blood alcohol content was .194 and he tested positive for methamphetamine.
While out on bond, Robinson was arrested again on June 1, 2025, for DUI after being found unresponsive behind the wheel of a vehicle in the roadway. The State argued that the new arrest constituted a clear violation of his release and demonstrated his continued danger to the community.
Judge Coffee ruled that Robinson had forfeited his right to bail and ordered that he remain in custody without bond pending disposition of his case.
Assistant District Attorney Shannon Mason handled the hearing.
Bonds Revoked; Defendant to Remain in Custody Pending Grand Jury: On August 25, 2025, Judge Greg Gilbert revoked the bonds in two pending cases against Gabriel Christopher following a motion by the State, successfully argued by ADA Steven Shirley.
At the time of the motion, Christopher was out on bond for cases involving Child Abuse, Neglect and/or Endangerment, Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment, and Interference with Emergency Calls. While on release, a new warrant was issued charging him with Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Rape, and two counts of Violation of Bail Conditions—again involving the same victim.
After a week-long manhunt, Christopher was located in Tipton County and extradited back to Memphis.
All three cases are being presented to the Grand Jury. Christopher remains in custody pending further proceedings.
Assistant District Attorney Steven Shirley handled the cases.
Court Finds Probable Cause in Attempted Murder Case Involving Repo Driver: On August 26, 2025, Judge Greg Gilbert found probable cause to bind over multiple charges against Diaquan Williams following a preliminary hearing successfully handled by ADA Ravi Lipman.
The charges stem from an incident in which the victim, a repossession truck driver, was attempting to recover a vehicle when Williams allegedly opened fire. The victim testified that Williams fired four shots at him as he attempted to leave the scene.
Video footage presented in court showed Williams pointing a firearm at the victim at close range, threatening to kill him, and then firing multiple shots. One bullet struck the victim in the leg.
The court found probable cause for Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder, Criminal Attempt Aggravated Robbery, Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony. All charges were bound over to the Grand Jury.
Assistant District Attorney Ravi Lipman handled the hearing.
