DA's Office Update

DA's Office Completes Review of Cases Worked by Officers Involved in Tyre Nichols Case

The DA's Office has completed the review of the cases worked by the five former MPD officers accused in the death of Tyre Nichols. Approximately 100 cases shared between the officers were reviewed, resulting in at least 30 dismissals. In addition, charges were reduced in about a dozen cases.  As in any such case, the primary consideration is concern about the credibility as witnesses of discharged officers.

Our office has charged five now-terminated MPD officers in the death of Nichols--Tadarrius Bean, Desmond Mills, Emmitt Martin, Justin Smith and Demetrius Haley. Defendants are expected to file various pretrial motions.  No trial date has yet been set.
