Nashville Conference on African-American History and Culture

Mark your calendar and plan to attend the 35th Annual Nashville Conference on African-American History and Culture on Friday, February 12th! The full conference program and registration form is now available. 


Old House Fair

The Metropolitan Historical Commission Foundation and partners will host the 2016 Old House Fair on Saturday, March 6, 2016 at the Sevier Park Community Center, 3021 Lealand Avenue. The Old House Fair is a FREE day-long festival showcasing new ideas, practical advice, innovative materials, and quality services for homeowners to learn more about sustainable and historic products and services, and gain tips for planning and executing residential preservation projects.

Exhibitors will include companies, retailers, and artists experienced in working with homes of many ages and styles, from Antebellum to Mid-century Modern.

Know a young preservationist?  We’ll have children’s activities, too, thanks to Historic Travellers Rest Plantation & Museum

Call for Nominations: 2016 Preservation Awards

The Metropolitan Historical Commission is now accepting nominations for the 41st Annual Preservation Awards program. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, March 11, 2016. To learn more about the awards program and to download the nomination form, please visit Preservation Awards.

First Tuesday at the Archives

Join Friends of Metro Archives from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the Commons Room of the downtown Nashville Public Library for First Tuesday at the Archives. Winter programs include Betsy Thorpe discussing "The Day the Whistles Cried at Dutchman's Curve" on February 2nd and Debbie Watts presenting "Taking History to the Stage" on March 1st . Free Admission to The Hermitage

Enjoy FREE Admission to The Hermitage on January 8th! Andrew Jackson's Hermitage, Home of the People's President, will feature a variety of events in celebration of the 201st Anniversary of Jackson's Victory over the British at New Orleans. Activities include a wreath-laying ceremony, movie marathon, living history programs, and a book-signing and talk by David Plater, author of The Butlers of Iberville Parish, Louisiana


Preserving Nashville's Historic Music Row

Planners and community members continue to discuss the development of a design plan which will guide the Planning Department’s and the Planning Commission’s actions on future development in Nashville's historic Music Row neighborhood. The design plan will be based on community members’ vision and goals for the area. The plan currently being developed could be presented to the Planning Commission in March 2016.

Mark your calendar for the next community meeting to be held on Monday, January 11th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the community room at the Midtown Hills police precinct, 1443 12th Avenue South. The meeting is open to the public.

History of the Cumberland

The "History of the Cumberland" River Talks series at the Cumberland River Compact resumes with lectures in February and March. The History of the Cumberland River lecture series examines the important events and figures in the history of the Cumberland River Basin. Featuring some of the Basin’s preeminent historians and storytellers, this lunchtime series explores how the river as we know it came to be. Tennessee Preservation Trust Annual Conference

Mark your calendar for the Tennessee Preservation Trust's Annual Conference to be held March 16-18 in Nashville. "Three Part Harmony: Interpretation, Preservation and Inspiration" will be a joint conference  between the Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM), the Society of Tennessee Archivists (STA), and the Tennessee Preservation Trust (TPT).
