April is National Financial Capability Month! It's is a great time for teens, especially those heading to college in the fall, to learn important personal financial skills. Participants will learn about managing a bank account, determining a budget and savings goal, and discovering careers, then experience adulthood in a hands-on way with the "On My Own" simulation. Presented by the UT Extension. For ages 13 to 18. Registration begins April 8.
Step into the captivating world of Indian dance at "India Day" with instructor Jay Kumar! All ages, from children as young as 4 to teens and adults, are invited to discover the intricate form, elegant dress, and rich history of Indian dance. Join us in the Storytelling Room from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 for an enlightening and immersive experience. Registration is required. Meet us for a morning in the great outdoors at the Collierville Victory Garden on Friday, April 19 at 9 a.m.! Volunteers will lead an informational tour of this community garden, which is managed by Memphis Area Master Gardeners. Collierville Victory Garden is a sustainable garden, striving to make informed decisions on plant selection, crop rotation, water conversation, composting, weeding, and pest prevention. In an effort to attract migrating pollinators, the garden dedicates space to a bee and butterfly haven. Registration begins April 5.
A Writer’s Introduction to Poetic Techniques
As part of April’s Poetry month, author John Burgette will briefly review the development of one of his published poems on Saturday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. The presentation will provide a high-level review of common poetic techniques and consider how these methods might be used for other styles of creative writing. Registration begins April 13.
Poetry Display
During April, the Library will feature original poems from local writers in the Library lobby's Gallery Hall. Stop by to enjoy these creative works and vote on your favorite poem!
The Summer VolunTEEN Program allows youth ages 12 to 18 to volunteer with the Library during the Summer Reading Program. Volunteers will help record patrons' reading, hand out prizes, and explain how the Summer Reading Program works.
Youth who wish to apply for the Summer VolunTEEN Program must complete a Google Forms application, which will be open from 10 a.m. on April 1 through 10 a.m. on May 6. Read on for more details!
