FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2015

The Saint Paul Police Department will host an event to welcome to St. Paul youth from East and West Africa—and empower them with information about programs and services designed to help them stay healthy, safe and engaged in their community.

The East & West African Youth Summit will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Amherst H. Wilder Center (451 N. Lexington Ave., St. Paul).

More than 100 young people whose families immigrated to the United States from countries in East and West Africa are expected to attend. An array of presenters will be on hand to provide information about:

  • health and wellness
  • Internet and social media safety
  • employment opportunities
  • youth programs for personal and professional development.

In addition, recruiters from government agencies and colleges will be available for young people looking for jobs, possible careers with the government, and post-secondary education.

The summit is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

The event is hosted by the Saint Paul Police Department with support from:

  • Amherst H. Wilder Foundation
  • Afro Deli & Catering
