Baby Shower & Baby Naming Weekend At Como ~ Saturday - Monday
City of St. Paul sent this bulletin at 02/12/2015 01:55 PM CSTYou’re invited to a baby shower! Giraffe calf, zebra foals, orangutan infant and more! Help us “shower” our newest “zooborns” and their families with love just in time for Valentine’s Day. This President’s Day weekend will be filled with free, family fun activities, make-and-take crafts, games, trivia contests, special zoo keeper talks, and opportunities to meet some of Como’s furry and feathered animal ambassadors. On Monday, February 16th at 2:00pm the winning name for the baby orangutan will be revealed!
Como is partnering with Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery and asking visitors attending the President’s Day weekend Baby Shower to bring in new, unused items that will in-turn be donated to the Crisis Nursery. Items requested by the Crisis Nursery are:
-Children’s Shoes / sandals
-Boys Pants / Shorts
-Children’s Toothbrushes
-Kleenex
-Office / copier paper
-Dry Erase markers (fine or medium point)
-AA and AAA Batteries
Saturday, Sunday, and Monday Ongoing Activities 10:00-4:00
ZooBorn Trivia—How tall was Skye the giraffe calf at birth? What color are baby Emerald Tree Boas? Test your knowledge to see how well you know the newest members of the Como family! Visitors can play a ZooBorn Trivia game. Winners will receive a prize, while supplies last. Location: Visitor Center.
Welcome Baby Greeting Card—Shower our new “zooborns” and their families with love by signing a jumbo greeting card. Location: Visitor Center.
Make-&-Take Baby Animal Lacing Card Craft—Location: Visitor Center.
Giraffe Calf/Zebra Foal—Get your stripes and splotches on with giraffe calf and two zebra foals. Location: African Hoofstock Building.
Emerald Tree Boa Babies—Meet some of the 17 beautiful, new snake babies at the zoo! Location: Visitor Center
Poison Dart Frog Tadpoles—Hop on over to witness the life of a poison dart frog from egg to tadpole to adult frog. Location: Visitor Center
Ape Infants—We’re going ape with an orangutan infant and upcoming gorilla birth! Location: Primate Building
Ostrich Egg-stravaganza Contest—No chicks in these eggs, but can you guess how many eggs our resident ostrich will lay in 2015? Location: Visitor Center.
Crisis Nursery Donation Collection—Help support babies in the Twin Cities by making a donation to the Crisis Nursery. Location: Visitor Center

There is still time to vote for your favorite name! Como Zoo is asking the public to vote for the name of the baby orangutan with their pennies. The public is encouraged to vote online by donating money as a way of voting for their favorite of the following three names.

Kemala (pronounced Key-mala) meaning magic stone
