COMMUNITY INPUT SOUGHT
The City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department is currently inviting ideas on the future for Como Lakeside Pavilion. Two community meetings at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 (TONIGHT), and Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Visitor Center at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory will engage users to explore ideas that will be included in future requests for service providers at the Pavilion. An online survey was administered in June and received over 1,000 comments. BWBR, a 92-year-old Saint Paul-based firm with extensive experience in community engagement, will facilitate the meetings and analyze the feedback. Later in the process, a community evaluation committee will select a vendor(s) for the Como Pavilion.

The Railroad Island Task Force, in partnership with the Saint Paul Design Center and local businesses and residents have approved a plan to help resolve traffic, livability and development issues along the Payne Ave. commercial corridor in Railroad Island. If you've ever waited in line to park at Morelli's Market or gotten lost trying to find Swede Hollow Park, there's now a plan for that! The next step is to submit the plan to the Saint Paul Capital Improvement Budget Committee for the street improvements. Businesses and developers also now have a framework for developing along the corridor as well.

While "scrappers" sometimes provide a convenient service (removing unwanted bulky waste items free of charge), sorting, hauling and storing scrap is a nuisance for those who live near this illegal practice. As a response to complaints from community members about the negative impact of illegal scrapping in residential neighborhoods, the City Council recently added vehicles containing recyclable materials (licensed or unlicensed) to an ordinance banning commercial vehicles from parking on residential streets for more than 30 minutes. If you suspect illegal scrapping in your neighborhood, please report it to 651-266-8989.
