Business Review Council Appointments

The Department was proud to host the Council’s June 15, 2011, meeting and welcomes Mayor Coleman’s new members to the Council:

Safety

Fire Certificate of Occupancy

278 one and two family rentals were inspected in June; leaving 2,028 identified for initial inspection. Of one and two family rentals receiving their second certificate, 45 improved their letter grade in June.

Vacant Buildings

The total vacant building count is at 1,463.  There were 76 taken off the list through rehabilitation and demolition; while 73 were added to the list in June.

Development

Permit Activity


The three largest building permits issued in June were for:
Luther Seminary – 1490 Fulham St ($2.3 million), Wellstone Academy – 65 Kellogg Blvd E ($1.5 million), and University Park Medical – 1690 University Ave W ($1.03 million).

New Business Licenses

19 newly licensed business operators are up and running this month, one of which is Wow! Gourmet at the Saint Paul Farmers Market.

Site Plans

One of the indications of new development activity is site plans.  There were 10 site plans applied for in June.

Complaints

There were 2,328 complaints received by DSI in June.  Exterior, tall grass, and graffiti were the top 3 complaint categories.

Happenings

The Department of Safety and Inspections is proud to staff Mayor Coleman’s Saint Paul Business Review Council.  The left bar contains the list of members (new, reappointed, and in good standing) and their respective ties to Saint Paul’s business community.
Charge of the Business Review Council:
To review the laws and procedures of the City as they pertain to businesses, and to recommend changes to the Mayor and City Council that they will reduce or simplify burdensome regulations, eliminate obsolete requirements, and promote cooperation among various City enforcement agencies, businesses, and neighborhood groups.  In addition, the Business Review Council will become familiar with City processes and recommend changes in operations.
