West Academic officially back in Saint Paul
Corporate headquarters now located at UBS Plaza
SAINT PAUL – West Academic has officially moved their headquarters to the UBS Plaza in downtown Saint Paul. The company is occupying 23,000 square feet of office space that houses 73 employees and provides room to add seven jobs over the next year.
“This historic company got its start in our great city 141 years ago, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome them back home,” said Mayor Chris Coleman. “With new housing developments underway and light rail soon to open, West Academic’s relocation is yet another indicator of the momentum in the core of Saint Paul.”
West Academic, once the law school publishing arm for Thomson Reuters, was divested in February, 2013. In 1996, Thomson Corporation acquired West Publishing, a company founded in Saint Paul by John B. West and his brother Horatio in 1872. The company has become the leading publisher of casebooks, treatises, study aids and other legal education materials in the United States serving students, faculty, bookstores and consumers. Their products are sold under the West Academic Publishing, Foundation Press and Gilbert imprints.
“Our roots in Saint Paul are an important part of our heritage,” said Chris Parton, CEO of West Academic. “And Saint Paul has the infrastructure and vibrant community that will help us retain and attract talented employees. The light rail line and all of the development happening in Saint Paul made the decision to move downtown an easy one. We couldn’t have made a better choice.”
