FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 5, 2012

Tipline for missing Saint Paul woman, Kira Trevino, receives about 50 contacts

Remains of Trevino yet to be discovered

Since establishing a tipline for community members to share information in the hopes of finding Kira Trevino, Saint Paul police investigators have followed up on more than 50 leads. Trevino, who was reported missing Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, is believed to be dead, but investigators have not yet found the 30 year-old Saint Paul woman’s remains.

Tips have come from around the Twin Cities Metro Area and beyond. Investigators have searched specific areas in some cases, when tips included detailed information. In other instances, when even vague information was provided, investigators followed the tip.

As an example, in one case, when a tip led investigators to a set of footprints in an unusual area, it was discovered that the prints belonged to a fox trapper.

With the new snowfall across the state, investigators are asking once again for community members, as they go through the work of removing snow from their properties, to please think about any possibilities of where Trevino’s remains might be concealed. And as community members go through their daily lives, keep a look out for anything out of place or suspicious. Examples of areas might include:

  • Nature centers
  • Parks
  • Wooded areas
  • Ponds
  • Industrial dumpsters
  • Construction site dumpsters or areas
  • Low lying areas or gullies that now might be drifted over with newfallen snow

The tipline, 651-560-3277, was established on Friday, March 1, 2013 and continues to be staffed by investigators as is possible. If it is necessary for callers to leave a voicemail, an investigator will follow up on the call within hours. The tipline also accepts text messages.

Any tips are welcome, however, the information would ideally include:

  • Nature of the information
  • Any pertinent locations connected to the tip
  • Any pertinent times connected to the tip
  •  Any possible contact information for the person leaving the information
    • Anonymous tips with specific information are welcome

Investigators have determined that Kira Trevino was last seen alive leaving the Mall of America at 9:18 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. Over the weekend, Mall of America security noticed an abandoned car, later determined to belong to Kira Trevino.

Hours later, on Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013, Kira Trevino’s husband first reported her missing to police. As the investigation into her disappearance progressed, authorities examining Kira’s car and residence, discovered evidence of a violent crime.

The husband, Jeffery Dale Trevino, 39 of Saint Paul, is charged with two counts of murder in the second degree in connection with death of Kira Trevino.

Investigators continue to follow all leads of where Kira or Jeffery Trevino may have been. Police are specifically seeking information on where Jeffery Trevino may have been, between the hours of 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013.

Photos of Kira’s vehicle, a 2006 white four-door Chevy Cobalt with license plate number XCC-572, are attached to this release. Anyone who believes they might have seen this vehicle anywhere within 100 miles of the Twin Cities Metro Area on the Thursday night or Friday morning before her disappearance, is asked to contact the tipline.

Also, anyone who believes they may have seen Jeffery Trevino, described as a white male standing 5-foot, 11-inches and weighing 175 pounds, is asked to contact the tipline.
