Bridges, bikeways and park restoration
for Saint Paul’s east side
Cayuga Project and Trillium Park upgrades bring new
beauty to Saint Paul
WHAT: The city of Saint
Paul and MnDOT will celebrate the upcoming construction
on the 40-acre Trillium Nature Sanctuary, which is part of the larger Trout
Brook Regional Trail corridor. This project is concurrent to the construction
of a new, nearby bridge over I-35 at Maryland
Ave. The nature sanctuary will once again become a
water course for the Trout Brook, a natural habitat corridor for birds and
animals, and will also facilitate movement of pedestrians and bicyclists along
the Trout Brook Regional Trail.
Almost 20 years ago, before the Trillium area
was acquired, a group of community members started on the long path to reclaim
the Trout Brook Valley
as a beautiful amenity. The site was secured with City funds in part from MnDOT
as part of the 35E/Cayuga project, and DNR Metro Greenways Grant. Open Houses are planned in
Little Canada, Maplewood and St. Paul in the coming months as a
part of the ongoing Cayuga Project, which will improve bridges and access along
the I-35E Cayuga Corridor.
