North End Community Center Grand Opening Celebration
Come celebrate the opening of North End Community Center (154 Lawson Ave W) this Saturday, April 12 at noon!
Attendees will have the opportunity to take tours of the facility, participate in activities, and enjoy performances by local artists. There will be a short program starting at 12:15pm with Mayor Melvin Carter, Council Vice President Kim, and Parks and Recreation Director Andy Rodriguez along with federal, state and local elected officials and community members.
Our city’s newest community center provides a welcoming, inviting, and multigenerational space for social and athletic use that can be flexible and adapt to changing community interests and needs over time. The center also holds the title for most sustainable community center in Saint Paul, as it leverages a geothermal energy system, bird safe glazing, roof-top solar, stormwater management, and renewable building materials. These state-of-the-art features reflect input from the community, marking an important milestone in Saint Paul’s community engagement efforts.
Construction Season
Construction season is here and there are multiple projects this year in Ward 5. Check out the St Paul Public Works Construction map for information on road construction projects. You can sign up for email updates through the project-specific webpages.
Some projects in our city are conducted by Ramsey County (such as Dale Street and Rice Street) or the MN Department of Transportation (such as East 7th St and Arcade) depending on road ownership. Check out Ramsey County road construction projects and MnDOT road construction projects for more information.
Citywide Cleanup Volunteer Events
We hope you join us in celebrating the 55th Anniversary of Earth Day by participating in a Citywide Cleanup outing!
Join in one of the several community cleanups across St Paul from April 12th through May 10th.
Would your group or organization like to organize a cleanup? Pick your date, time, and location (park, sidewalk, or trail) and fill out the request form to receive cleanup supplies from Parks and Recreation (or bring your own trash bags and gloves from home).
Willing to make a bigger commitment? Consider signing up to adopt your block! This requires a minimum commitment of two years and a pledge to clean the block a minimum of 12 times per year. Learn more about hosting a cleanup here.

Resources for Small Businesses
Please consider subscribing to the small business resources newsletter, sent out on the second Thursday of every month.
One of the highlights of month's issue are resources to help your business reduce waste and save money:
- Get a free site visit from a Waste Wise sustainability specialist to identify new ways to recycle, maximize reuse, and explore new waste reduction options. They can also review your waste bills and help you right-size services to make them as efficient and affordable as possible.
- The goal of the Business Energy Efficiency Grant Program is to motivate business owners to complete commercial energy efficiency upgrades/projects that would otherwise not have been completed without this aid. Businesses served by Xcel Energy or CenterPoint Energy are eligible to apply.
-
MNimize is a campaign to recognize and support food service businesses as they take action to reduce single-use plastic. The MNimize team will come visit your business to help identify the actions that best suit your needs and interest, and will offer ongoing implementation support.
- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is accepting applications for their Small Business Environmental Improvement Loan. These 0% interest loans are available to assist small businesses in improving practices to meet or exceed environmental regulations.
