Report from the St Paul Legislative Advisory Committee on Reparations

reparations presentation

The St Paul Legislative Advisory Committee on Reparations met over the past year with the goal of creating roles and responsibilities for a new city commission to be known as the St. Paul Recovery Act Community Reparations Commission.

A proposed draft ordinance and 31-page companion report was presented to the city council’s organizational committee on Wednesday. You can read the report and draft ordinance here (click to access the 4 attachments).

Next steps: The Council and Mayor's office will review the draft ordinance. Key considerations will include funding and staffing. A draft ordinance would then come before Council, have a public hearing, and potentially be amended over the course of several weeks. Stay tuned for more!

Solidarity Street Gallery - Call for Artwork!

Solidarity Street Gallery 2022

Solidarity Street Gallery
invites all visual artists to submit work to a juried fine-art exhibit, to be held Sept 9 + 10 along Payne Ave, in St. Paul, MN. The aim is to bring together artists and the community in one of the most diverse urban districts in St. Paul, MN, for important exchanges about justice, equity, and resilience.

The exhibition theme is RESILIENT GENERATIONS, centered around Southeast Asian communities – and other displaced groups. Visual artworks are being sought, by artists of any background, that reflect on the immigrant experiences of being forced from a homeland; rebuilding lives in a new diaspora home; and establishing a new identity while revitalizing culture, language, and history across generations.

The artworks will be displayed in the storefronts of 35 local businesses and galleries, creating a walkable “Street Gallery” spanning several city blocks. This unique format allows artists to connect to diverse audiences who otherwise my not have the opportunity, means or mobility to experience high-quality art.

To learn more, and to submit your work (July 25 deadline), please go to:
