Griggs Street Bikeway
October was a big month for the Griggs Street Bikeway. We held three public meetings and received recommendations for approval of the resulting design proposal from the City's Transportation Committee and Planning Commission. The public meetings included several dozen residents all told, some of whom even joined us on foot and by bike for a mobile public meeting -- the first of its kind for Saint Paul! Over 120 others provided input on the project online. Next stop for the Griggs Street Bikeway is City Council, anticipated to be on January 18, 2012. Jefferson Avenue Bikeway
Last month brought the second of two identical informational meetings about the Jefferson Avenue Bikeway. At these meetings, City Engineer John Maczko shared information on the background, progress-to-date, and next steps for the bikeway project. These next steps include three design meetings in December, which will focus on sharing information on the the pros and cons of particular traffic calming treatments to be followed by a discussion of potential applications of those treatments at specific geographic segments along Jefferson Avenue from Mississippi River Boulevard to Snelling Avenue. There will also be an online survey for citizens to share their opinions of these traffic calming treatments that will be live in December. For the latest on the Jefferson Avenue bikeway, please see: www.stpaul.gov/jefferson.

Farewell for Now, Nice Ride!
Ending its successful first season in Saint Paul, Nice Ride will be turning off the system for rentals at 10pm on Sunday, November 6 and pulling bikes and stations throughout the following week. We were thrilled to see the green bikes in the east metro this year and look forward to seeing more of them next year when the snow thaws!

"To me, being a Bicycle Friendly Community means that [Saint Paul] is listening to its citizens that want to have a more active lifestyle and feel safe doing it. Realtor surveys consistently show that walkable and bikeable neighborhoods and communities are the most desirable." -- Dorian Grilley, Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota.
