Saint Paul Public Library-Highland Park Offers Conversations on Race
Mayor to welcome participants at first workshop of the series
SAINT PAUL – Saint Paul Public Library-Highland Park, 1974 Ford Parkway, 651-695-3700, hosts Conversations on Race, a six-part series of workshops exploring issues of race and racial equity. The Conversations on Race series starts April 4 with welcome remarks from Mayor Chris Coleman, and will occur weekly on Monday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. and will feature speakers and presenters on a broad range of topics. This series is free and open to the public. Registration requested.
April 4: How To Talk with Kids About Race, presented by Alicia Sojourner of YWCA Minneapolis, explores helping young people to grow into adults ready to take action and advocate for racial justice.
April 11: Book discussion of forthcoming young adult novel “Away Running” with authors David Wright and Luc Bouchard.
April 18: Film screening and discussion of “Race: the Power of an Illusion,” which addresses ways our institutions and government policies advantage some groups at the expense of others.
April 25 and May 2: Film screening and discussion of “Cracking the Codes.” Part 1 explores bias, privilege, and internalized racism. Part 2 explores interpersonal-, institutional-, and structural racism.
May 9: Panel discussion with community leaders on how to move from awareness of racial and equity issues toward effective action that generates positive changes.
