Quarry Park Medical

On June 18, 2022, at approximately 1:32 PM, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a call of a medical emergency at Quarry Park located at 1802 County Road 137 in Waite Park near Quarry 12 and 13. It was reported that a man was seen on top of an approximately 80- to 100-foot-high restricted granite rock pile yelling for help.

Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Recreational Staff located James Stanley, 43, of St. Cloud, who was unable to stand up or walk on his own. Waite Park, St. Cloud, and St. Joseph Fire Departments, as well as Mayo Ambulance responded to the area to provide medical care and a technical rope rescue for Stanley. Stanley was lowered from the granite pile using ropes and a basket. He was then transported to the St. Cloud Hospital by the Mayo Ambulance for medical treatment. It was determined Stanley was suffering from heat exhaustion.

The granite rock piles at Quarry Park are restricted areas and very dangerous for anyone to be on. Stanley was issued a citation for being in a restricted area. If individuals are found in restricted areas at Quarry Park, they will receive citations for violating this ordinance.
