Downed Plane

On April 9, 2022, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call about a possible plane crash near the intersection of County Road 17 and 147th Avenue in Holding Township. Deputies arrived to the reported location along with Holdingford Fire and Rescue. Deputies and firefighters canvassed the area and were able to gather information that confirmed two planes were in the area. Both planes were flying low to the ground. A nearby resident was able to provide information that one plane was blue, and the other plane was black. The resident reported that the blue plane “buzzed” their neighbors house, which is not uncommon. They also reported that they did not believe the two planes crashed. Multiple phone calls were made to local pilots in the area to see if they were safe and to inquire who may have been flying these two planes.

The local community, a local volunteer pilot, Holdingford Fire and Rescue, MN State Patrol, MN DNR, Civil Air Support, and Mayo Ambulance checked the nearby landing strips and the area where the planes were last seen but were unable to locate a plane crash. The pilots of the two reported planes have not been identified.
