Medical
On April 10, 2021 at approximately 11:40 p.m., the Cold Spring Police Department and Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to a medical event at the Rock N River Event Center at 619 1st Ave. SE, in Wakefield Township. The initial callers reported an adult male who was unconscious and not breathing. While deputies and officers were en route, additional information indicated that the male had resumed breathing.
When Cold Spring Officers arrived on scene, they encountered a large crowd that was at the event center for a birthday party. They located an adult male, identified as Saul Cano, 26, of Rockville, inside the event center who was unresponsive and not breathing. Cold Spring Officers immediately started life saving measures, including the use of an AED. The Cold Spring Fire and Rescue Squad also responded and, once on scene, took over life saving measures. Mayo Ambulance arrived on scene and provided further medical care. The combined life saving measures were unsuccessful.
While life saving measures were ongoing, deputies and officers conducted an investigation into the events prior to the medical event. They learned that there was an altercation that had occurred sometime before the male had become unresponsive. Stearns County Investigators were also called to the scene to continue the investigation.
The initial investigation determined that there had been an altercation between Cano and another adult male. Witnesses indicated that there had been some pushing and some witnesses also stated that Cano had fallen to the floor. Cano and the other male had been separated and Cano had walked out to a patio area at the event center. Witnesses statements indicate that sometime between 20-40 minutes later Cano became unresponsive.
Based on the initial investigation the other male involved in the altercation was arrested and held at the Stearns County Jail.
