Building Fire
On March 2, 2021 at approximately 9:54 p.m., the Stearns County Emergency Communication Center received a call reporting a building fire at the address of 48394 County Road 25 in North Fork Township. The address is approximately six miles north of the City of Brooten. A passerby, Kristi Overman, 49, Brooten, was driving northbound on on County Road 18 when she noticed smoke coming from an outbuilding on the east end of the property. Kristi drove past the property and could see flames in the north part of the outbuilding. She contacted her husband, Thomas Overman, 44, Brooten, who made contact with the property owner, Norbert Vait, 63. The property owner was not in the outbuilding at the time of the fire. The 40’ x 100’ building had been used as a shop for farming equipment and was considered a total loss.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal is investigating.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Brooten Fire Department, Belgrade Fire Department, Glenwood Fire Department, Sedan Fire Department, El Rosa Fire Department, Villard Fire Department, Belgrade Police Department, Brooten Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.
