No Wake

Sheriff Steve Soyka has ordered an emergency NO WAKE zone placed on all of Carnelian Lake.

The lake level is very high and currently has most of the public access under water.

Minnesota Rules allow a Sheriff in times of an emergent situation to establish a NO WAKE zone for up to 30 days.  The applicable Minnesota Rule is 6110.3700 (9).  Boaters or Personal Watercraft Operators that violate the restriction may be cited.  NO WAKE speed means “operation of a watercraft at the slowest possible speed necessary to maintain steerage, but in no case greater than five miles per hour.””

While this may be a temporary inconvenience to watercraft users the restrictions are being enacted to prevent any further damage to the shoreline, submerged docks or lifts and to prevent injury from docks of lifts that may be obscured due to the water level. 

When the water recedes to an acceptable level, the restriction will be removed.
