Town News This Week - February 6, 2026 |
|
We’re breaking ground next week on Northpoint on Jarvis Creek, and we’re excited to welcome the community to be part of this special milestone.
Join us at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, as we celebrate this important step forward.
Northpoint on Jarvis Creek is a public-private partnership between the Town of Hilton Head Island and OneStreet Residential, LLC to deliver sustainable workforce housing on more than 11 acres of Town-owned property at 100 Northpoint Circle. This initiative will help meet the Island’s workforce housing needs while creating a vibrant, well-built, and livable neighborhood.
Given that the property is an active construction site, and the event will be held under a large tent, we encourage everyone to wear flat, comfortable shoes and dress for the day's weather.
Parking & Transportation
- Please park at the Coastal Discovery Museum, 70 Honey Horn Drive, Hilton Head Island.
- Palmetto Breeze will provide complimentary trolley rides to the Northpoint site.
- Trolleys depart Honey Horn beginning at 12:30 p.m., with the final departure at 12:50 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you there!

The Hilton Head Island Town Council and Town Manager Marc Orlando held a public workshop on Jan. 27 to review six-month progress on the FY26–28 Strategic Action Plan and to confirm the Town’s highest priority actions for the year ahead.
The workshop aligned Town Council on the most pressing policy issues facing the Island, confirmed progress to date, and sharpened focus on initiatives that balance Island character, community needs, and economic vitality. Guided by urgency, community benefit, staff capacity, and available funding, the discussion reaffirmed what unites Town Council: a shared responsibility to steward Hilton Head Island’s quality of life and long-term success.

February is Black History Month, and we are proud to celebrate the rich traditions, vibrant culture, and lasting impact of Hilton Head Island’s Gullah community through the work of the Gullah Geechee Historic Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation (CDC).
Last fall, the CDC launched an exciting initiative highlighting seven historic Gullah Geechee/ African American landmarks across the Island. One featured site is the Fisherman’s Co-Op at the Squire Pope Community Park, where visitors can learn about a group of Black fishermen whose efforts helped sustain the Island’s shrimping industry and successfully opposed a proposed chemical plant.
One meaningful way to kick off Black History Month is to download the CDC’s free Experience Gullah wayfinding app (available in app stores) and take a self-guided tour of these important sites. At each location, visitors can scan a QR code to explore stories, history, and cultural significance.
Additionally, the CDC’s new website brings together a wealth of resources for highlighting Gullah Geechee communities and people, including Gullah TV, local art, upcoming events, historical features, and more — all designed to deepen appreciation for and preservation of this heritage.
