As part of beach renourishment along the central parts of the Island’s shoreline, Marinex Construction started pumping sand from Gaskins Banks onto the beachfront along North Forest Beach, beginning at Mallard Street.
Marinex also demobilized from the part of Islander’s Beach Park that was used for equipment staging. That area of the beach park is now fully open to the public.
Cape Romain Contractors worked on the breakwater structures at Pine Island Beach, which remains closed during this phase. This project, a part of Phase 1 of beach renourishment, will take several months to complete.
Looking Ahead (Jan. 24-30)
Marinex Construction will continue pumping sand from Gaskins Banks onto the beachfront along North Forest Beach, moving south toward Coligny Beach.
Cape Romain Contractors will continue construction of breakwater structures at Pine Island Beach, weather permitting.
Beginning Jan. 27, Eastman Aggregate Enterprises, LLC will begin tilling sand along shoreline areas where beach renourishment has been completed, including Fish Haul, Port Royal (the “heel” of the Island’s shoreline), and portions of the central Island.
Beach tilling is required to loosen sand compacted by heavy equipment during renourishment, helping to create better habitat for sea turtles and shorebirds. Tilling is expected to take two to three days.
Please be mindful of the following:
Beach renourishment work occurs 24/7. We are doing everything we can to minimize disruptions caused by noise and equipment. We appreciate your patience as construction work progresses.
Stay Connected
Thank you for your patience and support as we work together to enhance and preserve the beauty of our island's shoreline!

With important due dates ahead for local taxes and fees, our Revenue Services Team wants to be sure businesses are aware of recent changes at the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) that could affect the timing of tax payments this year.
Due to operational changes implemented on December 24, 2025, mail may now receive a postmark date several days after it is dropped off at a post office or placed in a USPS collection box. This is because items are postmarked at processing facilities—not at the local post office or collection box.
What USPS Wants You to Know:
-
Limited pickups from some post offices, along with mail traveling farther to reach regional distribution centers (where postmarks are applied), have led to increased delays between when you mail an item and when it is postmarked.
-
To ensure your postmark reflects the day you mail something, visit a post office counter and request a manual postmark.
-
For time-sensitive documents, consider using Certified Mail or a Certificate of Mailing for proof of delivery.
The Town of Hilton Head Island Revenue Services Team will continue to use the postmark date to determine whether a tax payment is late.
Too complicated? You can always submit payments online and use electronic delivery for documents: https://hiltonheadislandsc.gov/government/finance/taxes/index.php
Important Deadlines Are Coming Soon!
Local accommodations taxes, beach preservation fees, and hospitality taxes due dates:Â
-
July 20, 2026
-
October 20, 2026
Business License Renewal Deadline:
Plan ahead to avoid delays and ensure your payments are received on time.

According to the National Weather Service, a multi-day winter weather event could impact portions of our region from late Saturday through early next week, potentially bringing very cold temperatures.
Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions and monitor local forecasts. A local shelter is available for those who may need it. We encourage you to share this information.

On Monday, we joined the community for the annual memorial march honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through his words and actions, Dr. King showed us the enduring pursuit of justice and equality for all. We thank the Hilton Head Island MLK Committee for Justice for bringing our community together to celebrate Dr. King's legacy. May his dream continue to inspire us.
