This Week’s Progress (Dec. 6-12)
Marinex Construction continued installing pipes to the Bay Point Shoals Borrow Area—the sand source—for phase two of beach renourishment in the central part of the island, but recent weather forced work to pause.
Cape Romain Contractors worked on the breakwater structures at Pine Island Beach, a project that will take several months to complete.
Looking Ahead (Dec. 13-19)
Marinex Construction expects to be back on schedule early this week, weather permitting, as crews work to install the final stretch of pipeline to the sand source and begin placing sand in the Singleton Beach area.
Marinex Construction will pause operations from Dec. 22–27 to allow crew members time to be with their families during the holidays.
Cape Romain Contractors will continue working on the breakwater structures at Pine Island Beach. Pine Island Beach remains closed during this phase.

This week, community members joined Town staff and Town Council for the groundbreaking ceremony of Taylor Family Park on Wild Horse Road. The event was filled with meaningful conversations, a powerful sense of community, and heartfelt family connections. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Taylor and McKnight families for their vision, generosity, and legacy that made this park possible.
This future park will honor the Island’s rich Gullah Geechee history and culture, creating a vibrant space for families to gather, learn, and connect for generations to come. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us.
Construction will soon be underway. Be sure to follow our updates as this community-driven park comes to life over the next nine months.

We have paused paving work on our section of Mitchelville Road due to supplier operations temporarily. The asphalt plant that provides paving materials has closed for several weeks, thus impacting local work; it is expected to reopen in mid-January 2026.
In the meantime, the Town-owned portion of Mitchelville Road within the Baygall Historic Neighborhood is graded and open to the public. Paving will resume once the asphalt plant is back in operation and the specified materials are made available. The Town will notify area residents once the work restarts.

It’s that most wonderful time of the year again—when holiday gatherings fill our calendars, neighbors channel their inner Clark Griswold, and the spirit of giving shines brightly across our island. As Christmas and Hanukkah bring an extra measure of love and light, our hearts can’t help but grow a few sizes in return. Amid the celebrations, I want to take a moment to wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday season on behalf of the Town of Hilton Head Island. May you welcome the new year with a spirit of community, friendship, and gratitude.
As 2026 approaches, Kathy and I—along with Town Council and Town staff—hope you are blessed with renewed opportunity, joy, and meaningful new beginnings in the year ahead.
