Town News This Week - August 23, 2025 |
|
We’re happy to share the latest updates on Phase I of our beach renourishment project at Fish Haul Beach! Work is progressing, and here’s a summary of what we’ve accomplished this week and what’s coming up.
What We’ve Achieved This Week (Aug. 16 – 22)
Our team from Marinex Construction has been hard at work installing the necessary pipelines for the upcoming renourishment. These pipes are crucial for transporting sand to the beach when construction kicks off. The installation of these pipelines sets the stage for the next phase, where we’ll be pumping sand onto the beach to restore and enhance its natural beauty.
What’s Coming Next Week (Aug. 23-29)
Marinex will keep preparing the pipelines both at Fish Haul Beach Park and offshore until September 1.
The beach will remain open to the public until we begin placing sand in early September, so feel free to enjoy the beach while we work.

This past Monday, the Town shared the latest progress on the Taylor Family Park, a planned 4.9-acre space that will serve the communities along Wild Horse, Gumtree, and Squire Pope roads. The event featured project designs, future park amenities, and a presentation from local landscape architecture firm Witmer Jones Keefer. Last week, the Town of Hilton Head Island hosted an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Open House at Town Hall. Community members joined Town staff and our consultants to share input on accessibility needs as part of our ADA Self-Assessment and Transition Plan.
As Mayor Alan Perry has emphasized, “Our goal is to ensure that everyone in our community has equal access to the programs, services, and facilities offered by the Town.”
The feedback gathered during this event will help guide the next steps of the Town’s transition plan. Assistant Town Manager Angie Stone shared: “Public engagement in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) self-assessment and transition plan process is not only required by the ADA but is also crucial to ensuring that we look at areas where the most significant barriers exist and prioritize our transition plan appropriately. We will have additional opportunities for public engagement throughout the process, including an online survey and review of the draft transition plan. Specific information on those opportunities will be shared in the coming months."
We sincerely thank everyone who participated and supported the Town’s ongoing ADA efforts. Your voices are essential to creating a more accessible and inclusive community.
