Thank you to all residents and business owners who joined our recent community meetings for the Districts Planning Project! Your insights are vital in shaping the future of the areas outside Hilton Head Island’s master-planned communities: Hilton Head Plantation, Palmetto Hall, Port Royal, Indigo Run, Spanish Wells, Wexford, Long Cove Club, Palmetto Dunes, Leamington, Shipyard, and Sea Pines.
If you live or work outside of these communities and couldn’t attend the meetings, there’s still time to make your voice heard! Our online community surveys provide a convenient platform to share your thoughts on the following districts:
- Skull Creek District
- Bridge to Beach District
- Parkway Arts District
- Marshes District
- Main Street District
- Forest Beach District
- Chaplin District
Your feedback is essential in guiding infrastructure investments, zoning regulations, land use decisions, and future community programs and policies. Information about each district is available on the district plans page of our website.
Take just 10 minutes to help shape your neighborhood’s future. Every voice matters! Surveys are open through April 30, 2025.

We are proud to recognize the remarkable contributions of three dedicated community members whose legacy of service helps make Hilton Head Island a great place to live and thank them for all they have done. They were recently recognized as part of the Mayor’s Honored Islanders Program.
-
Sanford Kaufman: With over 1,700 volunteer hours at Volunteers in Medicine, Sanford plays a vital role in patient care, appointment coordination, and training. His dedication and reliability are invaluable to the organization.
-
Ray Warco: A 37-year resident and influential leader, Ray has served as a board member of Volunteers in Medicine, Hilton Head Medical Center, and The Children's Center, and chaired the Greater Island Council. His unwavering commitment to civic engagement is truly inspiring.
-
Mary Wilcox: A compassionate volunteer at the Deep Well Project, Mary has tirelessly supported those in need, from assisting clients with their requests to ensuring children have toys and other gifts during the holidays.
We are grateful for their extraordinary service and the positive impact they've made on our community. Do you know an islander who deserves this honor? If so, we encourage you to nominate them through our online form.

Spring is just around the corner, and we are looking forward to welcoming the season with one of our newest landscape enhancement projects currently underway at the northeast corner of William Hilton Parkway and Squire Pope Road. This corner is home to two majestic live oak trees that are the centerpiece of the project.
“This project embodies our Town’s core values—environmental sustainability, historical preservation, interconnected pathways, and the creation of beautiful, inviting spaces for our community. Our residents and every visitor to Hilton Head Island pass through this intersection, and until recently, they may not have fully appreciated the magnificent oaks that stand there,” said Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry. “With the planned enhancements, this gateway will offer a picturesque and welcoming view for all to enjoy.”

After months of extensive enhancements to its pavilion, grounds, and other facilities, the Coastal Discovery Museum is excited to welcome visitors to enjoy its upgraded amenities.
Significant upgrades were made to the museum property as part of the Town of Hilton Head Island’s Capital Improvements Program for the fiscal year 2025. They include:
-
Mary Ann Peeples Pavilions Upgrades: Installation of new fans and lighting, along with a fresh coat of paint on the pavilion floor.
-
Landscaping and Hardscaping Improvements: A new brick paver pathway through the Camellia Garden and an accessible path to the adjacent restroom facility.
-
Enhanced Lighting: Uplighting and downlighting around the live oaks to enhance nighttime event experiences.
-
Essential Tree Care Work: Removal of dead wood and invasive vines, deep root fertilization, and lightning protection.
Work will continue in the area with the final installation of pathway bollard lighting. Construction signage and other safety control measures will be in place throughout the project, and the public will be notified as work progresses.

As a FOIA Compliance Officer and Administration Manager, Faidra strives to provide exceptional public service every day. Her commitment aligns with one of our core values—the pursuit of excellence—ensuring transparency and efficiency in all she does. Here are some other highlights from Faidra:
Years of Service with the Town: 29 Years
Most rewarding part of my job: Coordinating Mayoral Programs like the Mayor’s Youth Volunteer Service Award and the Mayor’s Honored Islander Program brings me so much joy. I love working with schools, students, and community members—it’s inspiring to see the positive impact these programs have!
My most memorable “Island-only” experience: During the Island’s 350/30 Celebration in 2013, I helped coordinate the placement of historical documents into a time capsule, which will be opened in 2033 for the 360/50 Celebration. I can’t wait to witness that moment—it will be a fun and historic event!
My favorite way to give back to the community: I love to help with various Town and community events. Volunteering my time gives me a sense of pride and it makes me happy to know I can make a difference in our community.
My favorite spot on Hilton Head Island: The Westin Resort in Port Royal. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Island.
Something people don’t know about me: I’m absolutely terrified of heights!
My hobbies: Golf, Working Out, Binging Netflix
Favorite quote: Spread love everywhere you go.
