Did you know that both the Town of Hilton Head Island and Beaufort County hold Tsunami Ready designations from the National Weather Service?
Tsunamis are rare on the East Coast of North America but not impossible. Recently, the Town's Emergency Management team joined forces with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Division, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, and the National Weather Service in Charleston to review and update tsunami response plans at the local, county, and state levels.
This collaborative effort enhances preparedness, ensuring agencies are ready to respond swiftly and effectively should the need arise. A key aspect of these plans is community education, which focuses on informing residents and visitors about tsunami risks and the steps they can take to stay safe.

On Monday, November 11, our community came together to honor and remember those who have served our country at the Veterans Day Memorial Service. It was a privilege to welcome Major General William Green, Jr., U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains and a Hilton Head Island native, as our guest speaker.
Our gratitude also goes to the Hilton Head Military Veterans Coalition, which sponsors Hilton Head Island’s Annual Veterans Day Program, Mayor Alan Perry, the Hilton Head Island High School NJROTC, the Hilton Head Choral Society, and local musicians Greg Whittaker and Billy Howe for making this ceremony so special. We are forever grateful to our veterans for their sacrifice and service.
