Through the Beaufort County Green Space Sales Tax Program, and with support and collaboration from Beaufort County, the Town of Hilton Head Island has purchased 26 acres of land on the Island’s north end for $11.745 million. Town and County leaders finalized the property acquisition on Oct. 3.
The land, which is part of the Mitchelville settlement, represents a major step towards preserving a significant portion of this historic neighborhood and preventing future growth. The acquisition was made possible through funds provided from the Green Space Sales Tax Program, which voters approved in November 2022, and the Town’s Real Estate Transfer Fee that is used to acquire land.

Through October 31, contractors for the Town of Hilton Head Island will be resurfacing street approaches, replacing concrete curb ramps, and constructing center medians along William Hilton Parkway between Beach City Road and Dillon Road. These improvements are aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety in the area.
The project will require some daytime closures of side roads, driveway lanes, and minor turn lanes on William Hilton Parkway. Night-time lane closures and partial pathway closures will also occur at certain times. Affected intersections include William Hilton Parkway at Gardner Drive, Palmetto Parkway, Northridge Drive, and the Northridge/Sea Turtle Marketplace entrances.

Let’s continue raising awareness and contributing to the cause - because every action helps make a difference.
