The Hilton Head Island Town Council in a 5-1 vote approved the Town's $166.9 million consolidated budget for fiscal year 2025 on June, funding priorities aimed at enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
The six funds proposed and approved for the FY 2025 consolidated budget include:
• General Fund - $60.9 Million • Stormwater Utility Fund - $7.5 Million • Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Fund - $74.4 Million • Debt Service Fund - $16.7 Million • Gullah Geechee Historic Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation - $3.4 Million • Housing Fund - $4 Million

The Town is in the process of developing an Island-wide resilience plan to tackle flood risks and is seeking input from the community. Your feedback will be used to shape both short- and long-term strategies for mitigating flood effects and to develop a Comprehensive Resilience Plan. Your insights and contributions are essential in this planning phase. Come out and share your thoughts during the scheduled hours!

The Atlantic hurricane season is here, and the Town of Hilton Head Island urges residents, businesses, and visitors to be prepared. From June 1 through November 30, be alert for potential hurricanes and other tropical weather threats. The Town has created guides that provide helpful information on making a disaster plan and an emergency kit.

On Monday, June 3rd, we joined the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2024 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil their remarkable project, Wheels to the Waves. Thanks to their dedication, Hilton Head Island's beaches now feature six additional accessible wheelchairs. The Town's Beach Wheelchair Program enhances beach access for people with disabilities. Beachgoers can reserve a wheelchair through the Town's website.

Summer has arrived, bringing more visitors to the stunning beaches of Hilton Head Island! In case the main parking lot at Coligny Beach is full, there is overflow parking at the USCB Campus on Sand Shark Drive during weekends and holidays. Take advantage of the FREE beach shuttle provided by Palmetto Breeze, which runs every 15 minutes, to transport you, your family, and your belongings to the beach. |

Juneteenth, originating from June 19th, is a federal holiday honoring the liberation of formerly enslaved African Americans in the United States. Also recognized as Freedom Day, Juneteenth was established as a federal holiday in June 2021. The Hilton Head Island Town Council formally adopted the holiday for observance on June 7, 2022.
Exciting community events are scheduled to mark the celebration of Juneteenth on Hilton Head Island. We hope you will enjoy the events hosted by Historic Mitchelville!

Congratulation to the Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park on their ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the newly-erected Ghosted Structures. These frames represent the original buildings of Mitchelville, a significant settlement established in 1862 for formerly enslaved people, marking the first self-governed freedmen's town in the United States.

The annual Memorial Day Service was held earlier last week. This ceremony included a call to the colors, speakers, a proclamation presentation, and music by the Hilton Head Choral Society. Click the event gallery to check out the photos of the ceremony below!
