On Saturday, February 11th, members of the Town staff took part in the Historic Cemetery Cleanup Project, organized by the Hilton Head Island MLK Committee for Justice. Thank you to this organization and dedicated volunteers for rolling up your sleeves to clean up Jenkins Island and Spanish Wells cemeteries, ensuring these significant sites remain well-maintained for generations to come.

Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue Fire Chief Chris Blankenship and members of Fire Rescue had the privilege of honoring several Island Recreation Center staff members for their remarkable actions on January 12, 2024. Heather Bruner, amidst a bustling swimming lesson, noticed a swimmer in distress at the bottom of the pool. Without hesitation, she sprang into action, swiftly bringing the individual to safety at the pool's edge. David Lowman then assisted by pulling the swimmer out, assessing their condition, and placing them in the recovery position, while Jackson Simmons promptly dialed 911 for help. Heather, David, and Jackson's rapid thinking and decisive actions led to a positive outcome of this incident, and we thank them tremendously.
