Master Plan Part 3 Continues
Part 3 of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan includes design services for parks and recreation improvements in conjunction with the plan recommendations. Chaplin Community Park and Crossings Park are recommended for redevelopment. The Mid Island Tract, Town-owned portion of the former Planters Row Golf Course, is recommended to be developed as a new community park.
In support of this next step in the process, staff has recently issued two Requests for Qualifications (RFQs):
RFQ 2021-14 Design Services for Parks and Recreation Improvements seeks qualified firms to provide design services for redevelopment of the existing Chaplin Community Park and Crossings Park. The goal of this project will be to produce concept plans for both parks. The submittal deadline is April 29, 2021.
RFQ 2021-15 Mid Island Initiative Area Planning and Park Design Services seeks qualified firms to provide land planning services for the Mid Island Initiative Area and design services for a new community park at the Mid Island Tract. The goal of this project will be to produce a Redevelopment Strategy for the Mid Island Initiative Area in tandem with designing the developing the Mid Island Tract. The submittal deadline is April 29, 2021.
Of the three parks, the Mid Island Tract will be the first constructed, followed by the other two parks in such a way that does not disrupt recreation services for the Island. The planning and design process will entail collaboration between the two consultants, along with continued community engagement. Staff anticipates kicking off the park planning in late spring-early summer. Stay tuned to this newsletter for updates about how you can participate in the process.
The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on April 8 at 3:30pm will include an update from staff.
