This year, Family Fun Day has evolved into a week-long virtual event so all families can safely attend!

Join online for a variety of activities from area non-profits, such as slime making, storytelling, lectures and more. Scheduled events include:

- Griot's Corner - Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park

- Archaeology Word Find & Activity Sheets - Pickett Educational Resources and the Archaeological Society of South Carolina-Hilton Head Chapter

- "Virtually Speaking" - Lectures, conversations and demonstrations celebrating the region's history, arts and culture from the Morris Center For Lowcountry Heritage

- Videos from the Lowcountry Master Naturalists - Readings from the Virtual Camp Conroy anthology "Stretching Skyward," as well as local children's book authors - Pat Conroy Literary Center

- Slime Making - The Sandbox Children's Museum

- Sweetgrass Basket Making - Michael Smalls & Dino Badger - Video Tour of Zion Cemetery - The Heritage Library

Submissions Due for the Art League's Craft Hilton Head

ART LEAGUE SEEKS ARTISTS FOR NATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION

Deadline to Enter: August 12, 2020

Art League of Hilton Head invites you to enter CraftHiltonHead2020, 7th National Juried Fine Art Craft Guild Exhibition, held every other year at Art League Gallery. Over $3,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.

All works selected by jurors will be on display October 6-31, 2020 at Art League Gallery inside Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. This art gallery provides the finest exhibit space with high tourist and community visibility. 

Eligibility: CraftHiltonHead2020 is open to all artists over 18 years of age, submitting entries of 2D and 3D fine art crafts in sculpture, basketry, glass, fiber sculpture and wall hangings (including paper), metal works, works in clay, handmade artist books, jewelry, weaving, wood, and assemblage.

Beaufort County and American History

On Wednesday, August 19, 2020 Author Richard Thomas will share his perspective on the history of the Southeastern coastline. His stories and their unmistakable implications along with little-known historical highlights chronicle 450 years of ground-breaking initiative taken in the region will leave the audience with no doubt as to the extraordinary role Beaufort County has played in the evolution of the American character and culture. 

This presentation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 10 AM via webinar. All Summer Forum events are free and open to the public, but advanced registration is required.

New Turtle Paintings on Exhibit at the Island Rec

Local artist Richard Grant has created a fantastic series of 12"x12" paintings paying homage to the Loggerhead Sea Turtle. Each turtle is $150 with half the sales price going to Hilton Head Sea Turtle Patrol. In addition to the paintings on display at the Island Rec, further selections can be viewed at Midici Italian Kitchen.

The Hilton Head Island Farmers Market is still occurring each Tuesday and featuring fresh local produce, pasture-raised chicken, free range rabbit, pork, seafood, salsa, cookies, breads and more every Tuesday in an open air environment.

Precautions have been taken to encourage best practices regarding social distancing to keep patrons safe.
