Lantern Parade Participants! Join  Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park light the Big Oak Tree!

The Lighting of the Big Oak Tree will be held in Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, 229 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC on December 9, 2019 at 5:30pm. Free & Open to the Public.

Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park is inviting participants from the Hilton Head Island Lantern Parade to bring their lanterns and highlight the history, ecology, and family of our Community/Island.

Dr. Marlena Smalls and The Hallelujah Singers, and Historic First African Baptist Church, will sing and tell some amazing stories of Holiday celebrations in the LowCountry.

  1. Arrive by 5pm  if you are bringing your lantern.
  2. Please park at the Historic St James Church and Historic Cherry Hill School and walk down to the park.  Lantern will be lite when the Big Tree is lite.
  3. Hot chocolate and soup will be available for purchase.

Hilton Head Choral Society Holiday Concert

The "Sounds of Christmas" will feature the 85-voice chorus with orchestra, and promises to capture the joy, magic and effervescence of the holiday according to HHCS Artistic Director Tim Reynolds.

Popular holiday favorites, including “Sleigh Ride” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” will be sure to have the audience singing along and tapping their feet. The program also will feature music of celebrated British composer John Rutter with his sparkling “Star Carol” and other traditional carol arrangements. Time-honored classics such as Cacinni’s “Ave Maria” and Mendelssohn’s “There Shall a Star Come Out of Jacob” will round out the concert repertoire.

Call for Artists: New Town Hall Gallery Installation

The Artist’s Gallery at Town Hall is an initiative to celebrate the contributions made by Hilton Head Island’s art community to the Town. The Artist’s Gallery is a public forum to highlight local artists, creating a space to showcase their work and an opportunity for our Town to honor the important role art plays in our community.

With the gallery set directly outside Benjamin M. Racusin Council Chambers on the administration hallway, visiting officials, employees, and citizens will experience a welcoming and diverse display of art and culture from Hilton Head Island artists.

The next installation will be on exhibit from January 6 – May 22, 2020

To be considered for the exhibit, please submit your piece for consideration online here no later than December 13, 2019.


Artful Adornment: Jewelry & Beyond

The Art League of Hilton Head is presenting "Artful Adornment: Jewelry and Beyond", on display at the Art League Gallery at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

The opening reception with the artists will be Wednesday, December 11 from 5-7 pm and is free & open to the public.  The artists will also be holding an Artist Meet and Greets December 3, 10 and 17. Meet the four jewelry artists and learn more about their work, techniques, inspiration and more.

Two of the greatest resources that our community has is its people and their creativity. The Office of Cultural Affairs is seeking ideas from our community visual artists, performing artists, musicians, lecturers, and art professionals at every stage of their careers to submit proposals for our Community Creates Initiatives.
