New Year, New Director, New Partners

Barbara & Jenn

The Heritage Library's Executive Director, Barbara Catenaci with Jenn McEwen & Baby Harry at Compass Rose Park

Happy 2019 to one and all!

This past year was one for the records books, both in the Office of Cultural Affairs and in my own life, as I welcomed a new addition to our family. Harrison Bradford McEwen joined us this past November and we're all madly in love.

Getting back into the swing of things as we head into the new year, I’m excited for the many events, updates and developments on the artistic horizon here at The Town of Hilton Head Island. Our town’s cultural treasures are almost too numerous to count, and the creativity of our citizens never fails to excite me. I can't wait to see what surprises await in 2019.

An exciting development at one cultural treasure in particular, the Heritage Library, stands out for me. The library recently named Barbara Catenaci as its newest executive director, a move that promises to take everything this tremendous organization does for our community to the next level. Barbara’s Lowcountry roots run deep, with 33 years in leadership roles at organizations in our area. From the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce to the Beaufort County School District, she has been a force for positive change locally. I’m excited to see how the Heritage Library continues to grow under her care.

The true sense of community among our island’s institutions continues to inspire me, and a great example of this can be found at the new USCB Hilton Head Campus. This spectacular new addition to our island has opened its doors to the Heritage Library, offering space for classes through its Osher Lifelong Learning Institute as part of an exciting partnership that is helping both organizations achieve their goals. And the Heritage Library is expecting to have all classes in the USCB Hilton Head Campus this coming Fall. View their full schedule of Winter and Spring Classes here.

It’s a win-win situation, and it’s just one of the many reasons I’m excited to see what 2019 has in store for Hilton Head Island.

Yours in Art and Culture,
Jenn
