The City of Renton held its first-ever Workforce Development Month celebration on Monday with a reception and a proclamation during the city council meeting.
The proclamation was accepted by Executive Director of the Office of Innovation and Strategic Partnership, Wade Parrott III, on behalf of Renton Technical College.
Workforce Development Month, celebrated nationally, raises awareness about the importance of the workforce industry to a modern and growing economy. This month, we’re honoring the people, programs, and partnerships driving opportunity and economic mobility in Renton.
Here are just some of the organizations in Renton making investments to Renton’s workforce:

Renton Technical College (RTC): RTC provides short- and long-term career programs, apprenticeships, transfer options, and degrees in many areas.

Renton School District (RSD): RSD’s Career and Technical Education program works with the city and local partners to help students explore careers and build transferable skills.

Local Businesses: Large corporations like Boeing and Walker’s Renton Subaru have employed student interns. Smaller businesses play their part too, committing to job shadow programs and hands on training.
To further support Renton’s workforce development, RTC and RSD have partnered to form the Renton Promise. Since 2023, this program has provided graduates of Renton’s four public high schools with full RTC tuition and fees for up to two years. This support has been available to all students, regardless of GPA, income, ability, or country of birth.

Celebrating our Information Technology division
The proclamation was accepted by IT Director Young Yoon who acknowledged the team of 24 IT professionals.
“[Our team] ensures reliability and secure access to data, brings efficiency through technology, and works with every department to improve operations and enhance the customer experience,” Yoon said.
Whether helping configure software, hardware, networks and more, we thank the IT Division, for their dedication and hard work!

Renton has several active boards, commissions, and committees that support the mayor, councilmembers, and city staff in making decisions in specialized areas of interest.
