Beginning Tuesday, September 2, pick up a physical guide at Renton City Hall, Renton Community Center, Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center, and Highlands Neighborhood Center.
The Parks & Recreation Department produces the guide every four months. It is your key to inspiring play, wellness, and a strong sense of community in every corner of Renton!
Be Prepared: Register for Renton Preparedness Academy and CERT!
Floods, earthquakes, and windstorms, oh my! Are you ready for emergencies? Come learn some simple steps you can take to get ready for all kinds of disasters.
Take the first steps towards preparedness by creating a plan and deciding what you’ll need in your emergency kit. This one-hour introductory class is part of Renton Emergency Preparedness Academy. The course is on Wednesday, September 10, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Register now: rentonwa.gov/EP101.
Want something more? Join the Community Emergency Response Team and learn how to respond to a variety of disasters in your neighborhood. Register for this important and engaging seven-week program beginning October 2, with a final drill to test your skills on Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to noon: rentonwa.gov/CERT.
These programs are hosted for FREE by the Executive Services Department’s Emergency Management Division in partnership with Renton Regional Fire Authority and Renton Technical College.
Back-to-school reminders!
Renton School District students are headed back to school next Wednesday, August 27 and drivers should be extra careful when traveling around school zones.
Additionally, Renton Police Department officers will be patrolling school zones and nearby roads.
Here are some back-to-school reminders to keep everyone safe.

Slow down and watch for students.

Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks.

Follow the school zone speed limit when beacons are flashing!

Avoid distractions by keeping your eyes on the road.

Expect more traffic near schools.

Make sure your child is in the right car seat.
See a bus with its stop sign out?
-
STOP if you’re on the same side of the road as the bus.
-
STOP if you're on a two-lane road (even if the bus is on the other side of the road).
-
GO if you're on the other side AND the road has more than two lanes or is divided with a barrier.

Southbound I-405 closures this weekend
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will be conducting two closures affecting southbound I-405 traffic late Friday, August 22, to early Monday, August 25.

Southbound I-405 will be closed from Sunset Boulevard Northeast/Southport Drive (Exit 5) to SR 169/Maple Valley Highway (Exit 4)

11:59 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday

Detour routes include Sunset Boulevard Northeast or Logan Avenue North to North Third Street
-
Northeast 30th Street (Exit 6)’s southbound on- and off-ramps will be closed
-
9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday
-
Detour routes: south on Lake Washington Boulevard or Edmonds Avenue Northeast. NE 30th Street will remain open
Crews with WSDOT will be installing drainage crossings, paving, and implementing a traffic switch.

County repair event coming to Renton
King County will be hosting a free community repair event at the Renton Library on Saturday, September 6.
You are invited to bring small household and personal items for volunteer ‘fixers’ to attempt to repair or mend. Priority is given on a first-come, first-served basis for people’s first items, as fixers are available.
