The grand marshal for Saturday’s parade is Heather Duong. Heather recently graduated from Lindbergh High School and will attend the University of Washington, Seattle, in the fall, entering the Foster School of Business.
Heather was selected as the 2025 Renton River Days Parade Grand Marshal to recognize her for being one of six recipients of the 2025 Renton Rotary Scholarship.
Two students from each Renton School District high school are selected each year to receive the scholarship. Recipients are selected based on student performance and community involvement through their GPA, extracurricular activities, and volunteering, along with submitting a personal essay.
Heather has been a Renton resident for over a decade and stayed active during the school year through her involvement in DECA, swim team, being a teacher’s assistant at the Đắc Lộ Vietnamese Language School, and her participation in the Lindbergh High School Vietnamese fan dance team.
“Makes me feel really excited and honored that a high school student or just a young person in general can represent Renton as the grand marshal,” said Heather.
Watch Heather’s full interview and hear about her excitement about being involved in Renton River Days this year.
Catch Heather kicking off the Renton River Days parade this Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m. along South Third Street.

The proclamation was accepted by Kristina Mendieta, Director of Public Affairs at Kindering; Kari Grimit, Manager of Kindering’s Renton Campus; and Rome Johnson, a parent of a Kindering alumnus.
Mendieta explained that Kindering is a local nonprofit organization that primarily serves youth with developmental delays and disabilities.
She shared, “Last year, we [Kindering] served over 300 kids from Renton with pediatric therapies, early supports, and other services.”
Disability Pride Month is observed each July and celebrates people with disabilities and recognizes their contributions to society. The month also commemorates the landmark signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life.
