The rain that falls on our roofs, driveways, and streets picks up everything it touches including vehicle fluids, yard chemicals, and pet waste. This contaminated rain water then flows into storm drains and eventually into our creeks, rivers, and lakes.
The city’s Stormwater Management Program Plan details actions and activities to help keep Renton’s waters clean and healthy. The plan meets the requirements of the Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit, issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology, and contains requirements that the city must implement over a five-year (2024-2029) term.
Among other actions, the plan contains the city’s efforts to:

Engage the community in stormwater education and outreach, public participation, and pollutant reporting.

Inspect public and private development sites and stormwater facilities.

Implement and enforce regulatory requirements including a source control program involving the inspection of commercial, institutional, and industrial properties with pollutant generating potential.
Clean Sweep begins again for 2025!

Renton's Clean Sweep Program is back! From March 1 until December 31, 2025, single family residential customers within Renton city limits can schedule one pickup of extra garbage at no extra cost.
This pickup will occur on your regular garbage day and must be scheduled one to four weeks in advance.

Two bulky items like mattresses, sofas, or chairs
The following items are not accepted and should be recycled or disposed of in other ways: appliances, electronics, recyclables, yard waste, liquids, hazardous items, and construction material.
Celebrating Employee Appreciation Week
At this week's Renton City Council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated March 3-7 as Employee Appreciation Week in Renton. The proclamation was accepted by Public Works Department Water Engineering Manager Abdoul Gafour, who has worked for the city for over 45 years.
Gafour also shared his appreciation, saying, “We are deeply grateful for the opportunity and for the responsibility to serve residents and businesses.”
The city takes pride in fostering and retaining a skilled workforce and appreciates all the work that our roughly 700 employees do. From our frontline staff to internal services teams, thank you for making Renton a safe, healthy, and desirable place to live.
The City of Renton will host 2025 State of the City on March 26
Join Mayor Armondo Pavone during his annual State of the City address on Wednesday, March 26 at Hyatt Regency Lake Washington at Seattle's Southport. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees will be able to hear directly from Mayor Pavone on the city's progress and future plans and engage with local officials and fellow community members.

The Renton Employability Fair 2025
The City of Renton, Renton Chamber of Commerce, Renton School District, Invested In Neighborhoods, and Renton Technical College (RTC) are pleased to invite both job seekers and employers to participate in the Renton Employability Fair on Tuesday, March 25, from 4 – 8 p.m. at RTC.

Renton City Concert Band presents Destinations
Ready for a musical trip around the world? The Renton City Concert Band (RCCB) led by director Dr. Naomi Fanshier can help your ears take flight with their upcoming concert Destinations: Travel the World Through Music.
RCCB is a Renton recreation program that concludes its session with a concert open to the public. Established in 1986, this season features 69 musicians.
The concert is on Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center, 400 S. Second St.
Tickets can be purchased at the Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center, Renton Community Center, or at the door on the performance day. Tickets for adults are $13 and tickets for students and seniors are $10. Pre-purchasing tickets is strongly encouraged.
