Crews working for the Rainier Ave S Phase 4 Improvements Project are upgrading the underground storm and sewer system at S 2nd St. To complete this work, lanes will be intermittently closed at S 2nd St between Rainier Ave S and Lake Ave S. The closures will only occur as needed at night (8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday) and will continue through the end of February.
A signed detour will be in place during the closure, directing travelers to Airport Way via Lake Ave S. Once these underground utility upgrades are completed, we will begin repairing the street and sidewalks.
Evening traffic delays along Rainier Ave S
We understand that construction can be very impactful for people who live, work, and travel along Rainier Ave S, especially with the higher-than-normal traffic congestion in the area. Our team is making signal and lane configuration adjustments, when possible, to minimize travel delays for the community.
While we do everything we can to keep traffic flowing, it is not always possible to avoid intermittent closures during construction. Lane closures ensure the safety of our crews and the traveling public as we work to complete the necessary improvements along Rainier Ave S. We appreciate the patience and resilience of the community throughout this construction process.
