The City of Renton is looking for community members to join the Equity Commission. This group helps city leaders identify and address racial, economic, and social barriers in city programs, services, and policies.
The commission meets monthly on the second Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Renton City Hall. Members bring their unique perspectives and experiences to ask questions and offer recommendations, helping to ensure equity across Renton.
Who makes up the commission? The commission includes:

Nine members, including one youth position, age 18–25 (currently filled)

Renton residents or business owners in Renton

Individuals that reflect Renton’s diversity, considering factors like ethnicity, race, age, gender, faith, disability, and profession
Appointments are made by the mayor and confirmed by Renton City Council.

An evening of magic and masquerades with Renton Parks & Recreation
Bring the whole family for an enchanting evening of music, dancing, and memories on Friday, February 7, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Renton Community Center during the Moonlight Masquerade Winter Family Dance. Enjoy your favorite tunes, a photo booth, light refreshments, and a special keepsake to take home. This event is open to ages three and up, and pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Residents: $15, Non-residents: $18.
Bingo! Teen edition at Highlands Neighborhood Center
Teens ages 14–17 are invited for a night exclusively for teens on Friday, February 7 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the Renton Highlands Neighborhood Center. There will be Bingo and other games with a chance to win a prize like a Stanley cup or Polaroid camera. Other things to do include hanging out at the photo station, enjoying open gym, and eating delicious food with friends. Space is limited. Teens ages 14-17: $5.
Pilot project awarded $157,700 to begin transitioning gas-powered maintenance equipment to electric alternatives
Aligned with the city’s mission of “providing a safe, healthy, and vibrant community”, the funds will be used to transition some of the city’s gas-powered maintenance equipment to high-performance, battery-electric alternatives. Some benefits of this transition include:

Reduced emissions: Lower greenhouse gas emissions, air toxins, and particulate matter from Parks & Recreation and Public Works operations.

Improved air quality: Protect maintenance workers and residents from the negative health impacts of gas-powered equipment.

Quality equipment and work environment: Equip staff with the tools needed to better serve the community while fostering a safe and healthy work environment.
This transition marks a meaningful step forward in making city operations more sustainable.
As of January 13, 2025, Renton is one of 344 communities nationwide to be awarded this grant.
A valuable event series for business owners
Entrepreneurs, founders, and business owners can take advantage of this monthly event hosted by Startup425, in partnership with the City of Renton.
This first event of 2025 will take place on January 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the downtown Renton Library. Highlights include a discussion on library resources, a coworking session, and the opportunity to connect one-on-one with seasoned business leaders.
