As November brings a spirit of gratitude, it’s the perfect time to support our beloved small businesses and talented local artists! This season invites us to come together and celebrate the creativity that enriches our community through festive markets and heartwarming events. By shopping small and sharing our love for the arts, we uplift our creators and strengthen our community bonds, making this November a season of thankfulness, creativity, and togetherness!

 

Halloween Costume

Despite the rain, we had an amazing time at the Olde Fashioned Halloween event this past weekend! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and showcased their incredible creativity in the costume contest. The craftsmanship on display was truly fabulous! A special shoutout to our partners at Strike a Pose Photo Booth for capturing all the fantastic entries.

Connect with fellow artists and learn about Northwest Native Peoples through art as you create beautiful formline art and coloring projects, guided by artist Tommy Segundo of CreNative Designz. Support local small businesses and enjoy a fun-filled day with family and friends! We’re partnering with local arts organizations, including Free2Luv, Allied Arts of Renton, KCLS, Impact Public Schools, IKEA, and more, to provide free family activities. Enjoy a welcoming space to relax and recharge as you explore the Holiday Farmers Market and unique stores in Downtown Renton. Let’s kick off the holiday season together with festive fun for all!

Event Highlights:

  • Shop Local: Small businesses across the city are offering sales and promotions, so you can get a head start on holiday shopping while supporting Renton’s small business community.
  • Holiday Farmers Market: Open from 12 - 4 p.m., featuring local vendors and seasonal treats.
  • Free Arts Activities: RMAC and community groups are hosting family-friendly activities from 12 - 5 p.m.
  • Tree Lighting Ceremony: Celebrate the season with the annual tree lighting at 5 p.m.
  • Meet Santa: Capture your own holiday memories with Santa from 5 - 7 p.m.

SBS ornament

Get ready to spread some holiday cheer during the Shop Small season! Starting November 30, 2024, when you shop at participating small businesses in Renton, you'll receive a FREE DIY holiday ornament kit with any purchase of $5 or more. It's the perfect way to celebrate the season while supporting our local shops!

How It Works:
  • Shop Local: Spend $5 or more at any participating small business.
  • Receive Your Ornament Kit: Take home a festive DIY ornament kit to create your own holiday masterpiece!

But that's not all! Join us for our Crafter Circle Events on November 30 at the Pavilion Event Center and select dates in December at the Black River Cultural Arts Center. Bring your ornament kits, connect with fellow crafters, and enjoy some festive fun!

Drum Making Class

Native American Drum Making Workshop on Tuesday, November 5, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in Renton. Participants will learn about the history and significance of Native drumming while crafting their own handmade drum with guidance from Michael Shapsnikoff. This workshop fosters a deeper appreciation for cultural traditions that enrich our community. One drum per person or family—please register to reserve your spot! Sponsored by the Renton Municipal Arts Commission and Allied Arts of Renton.

Upcoming Author Event & Writing Workshop: Join us on November 9 at Renton Highlands Library from 4-5 p.m. for a free, interactive writing workshop and book talk celebrating Black hair, self-image, and history, led by author and poet, Kiana Davis. 

 


Erwilian

Join Seattle’s Billboard® chart-topping acoustic ensemble Erwilian for their 16th annual holiday concert on November 30 at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center. Delight in a yuletide journey filled with timeless carols and Erwilian’s unique blend of cross-genre instrumental music, capturing the warmth and joy of the holidays. Don’t miss this enchanting evening of seasonal sounds! Tickets are available online.

RMAC grants

Applications for the second round of 2025 Renton Art Grants are now open! To be eligible for funding, please submit your application electronically by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline day. The upcoming deadline is February 7. Be sure to review our Grant Guidelines carefully before applying. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to reach out to arts@rentonwa.gov. The Landing Window

The Window Art Project is a project The Landing has created to support local arts and re-purpose and fill up our vacant store windows. We are bringing them to life with temporary art installations from local artists and students—using all mediums.

This is an opportunity we’re so excited to be able to offer, for artists to utilize such a unique platform. This winter, let your art shine in some of our most vibrant spaces.

Children's Fair

The Acton Children’s Business Fair is coming to Citizens Academy on December 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (10421 SE 192nd St, Renton, WA 98055).

This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to launch their very own startup! Young entrepreneurs will develop a brand, create a product or service, and open for customers at a vibrant one-day marketplace.

Sponsored by Citizens Academy and Acton Imprimis, this event inspires creativity and business skills in the next generation of innovators.
