What a summer it has been! Many from the city have enjoyed witnessing long-time community members and newcomers discovering the numerous summer activities available, from engaging summer camps to the vibrant Renton Farmers Market, Henry Moses Aquatic Center, neighborhood events, and various recreational park activities.
As the community transitions into a new season, fresh opportunities emerge to connect with the city, community, and the Parks and Recreation Department. The fall edition of Let's Go Renton! Recreation Guide is now available online at rentonwa.gov/letsgo.
This edition encompasses the many favorite events and activities from September through December, such as the Superhero 5K, Truck-or-Treat, Holiday Bazaar, and new & returning recreational programming.
The Renton Parks and Recreation Department remains committed to focusing on three core pillars: promoting health and wellness, fostering equity, and conservation – all of which align with the objectives outlined in the city's comprehensive business plan.
Mark your calendars; registration for all fall activities and programming begins August 28 at rentonwa.gov/register. At the end of the month, printed copies of the guide will be available at city facilities, including Renton Community Center, Renton City Hall, Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center, and Highlands Neighborhood Center.
The city expresses gratitude to all the active participants in the community and encourages everyone to seize the opportunities to explore and enjoy the city's parks, events, programs, and facilities as the excitement of fall unfolds.
Help shape World Cup Legacy Square
With the World Cup coming to Seattle in 2026, Renton will play a unique role in this global celebration of sport. As home to the Seattle Sounders headquarters, Renton will see world-famous teams practicing at the Sounders facility at Longacres, and an influx of fans from around the world.
This excitement will be something to remember for years. The city is working to provide a space for Rentonites to view games and use in the future as well. In preparation, the city plans to transform the gravel lot near Piazza/Gateway Park into a vibrant space for future sports viewing.
The World Cup Legacy Square is a visionary project designed to create a dynamic and inclusive hub in Renton's downtown area, transforming an empty lot adjoining Gateway Park and the Piazza into a vibrant location for sports viewing, the arts, play, events, and more. A primary function of this initiative is to provide accessibility for all, regardless of financial constraints, demographics, or backgrounds.
We invite Rentonites to take part in shaping this new community space downtown during the upcoming “Square Talk” event on Tuesday, August 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. located at the lot on S. Third Street and Logan Avenue S.
During the event residents will have the opportunity to talk with city staff and travel between different stations focusing on the various future entertainment and activities for the space including an entertainment stage, small business incubation, future soccer pitch in partnership with Pacific Northwest (PacNW) Soccer Club, and arts space with the Renton Municipal Arts Commission.

Join the conversation: Help define playground upgrades at Maplewood Park
The city's Parks and Recreation Department is excited to begin the journey with residents on yet another new park playground upgrade. In the city’s resident surveys, Rentonites expressed the desire for the city to invest in existing park properties. For nearly 20 years, Maplewood Park has served children in the community, providing a place to be outside, have fun, and play. Due to the playground's active use, the park's aging equipment needs to be replaced. As part of this renovation project to address the aging equipment and enhance the fun and safety of the park, the following improvements are planned:
-
New playground equipment: The playground will be upgraded with state-of-the-art equipment designed to inspire creativity, physical activity, and social interaction.
-
Expanded playbox area: The play area will be enlarged to ensure adequate fall zone safety. The expansion will be designed based on the limitations from existing underground utilities.
-
Enhanced safety and comfort: We are exploring options for increasing shade in the park to provide a more enjoyable environment for young explorers. Underground utilities will influence the placement of trees to ensure safety and proper growth.
On Friday, August 23, at 7 p.m., at Maplewood Park (3400 SE Sixth Street), the Parks and Recreation Department will hold an engagement opportunity for the public to provide their input and thoughts on what should be included in the project.

Pavement longevity project to impact Renton neighborhoods
Starting on August 26, the City of Renton Public Works Department plans to apply a new "slurry seal" treatment to selected blocks in over 20 neighborhoods to extend the life of the pavement.
Slurry seal is a cost-effective and preventative maintenance treatment to preserve the longevity of the street. During this time, the plan for temporary street closures is outlined in yellow on the map found online.
Pedestrians and pets should avoid the slurry seal material until the street is reopened for traffic - the uncured emulsion is challenging to remove from clothing, shoes, or paws.
