Join Frank R. Vaise VFW Post #1263, Fred Hancock American Legion Post #19, and the City of Renton at the annual Memorial Day Celebration to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives to serve the country.
The event will occur on Monday, May 27, from 1-2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park (1000 S. 3rd St.).
The ceremony will feature a speech from VFW Post #1263 volunteer and coordinator Darrell Pilat, remarks from Mayor Armondo Pavone, Hazen High School senior Hannah Mattson will perform the National Anthem and America the Beautiful, and additional speakers are planned for the afternoon. Wreaths representing each branch of service, first responders, and MIAs will be presented.
Thanks to Frank R. Vaise, VFW Post #1263, and Fred Hancock, American Legion Post #19, for their pivotal roles in organizing this annual event.
All city facilities will be closed on May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.
Recognizing the importance of water safety and Public Works
During Monday night's council meeting, two proclamations were presented.
With the return of warmer weather, water safety is vital, especially with colder water temperatures.
Safe Boating and Paddling Week underscores the importance of wearing life jackets during water activities. Renton offers numerous opportunities for water recreation, and it is essential to recognize the potential risks involved, highlighted by the local United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Renton Flotilla, 130-02-05.
Public Works Administrator Martin Pastucha accepted the proclamation in acknowledgment of the department's wide range of roles, ranging from snow and debris removal to sustainability education, sidewalk maintenance, and Renton Municipal Airport management.
“On behalf of the 200 professional employees in the Renton Public Works Department, thank you for this proclamation and acknowledgement of their efforts day in and day out to make Renton a great place to live, work, play, and thrive,” - Martin Pastucha, Public Works Administrator.
The city would like to express gratitude for the dedication of the Public Works Department employees, who tirelessly serve the city throughout the year.
9th annual Career Fair: Uniting talent with opportunity
Discover exciting career opportunities and connect with over 60 employers at the upcoming Renton Career Fair. This free event is on Wednesday, June 5, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Renton Technical College's cafeteria (3000 NE 4th St.).
With a wide range of industries represented, including business, childcare, construction, healthcare, manufacturing, and more, there is something for everyone. Businesses and organizations attending the fair will actively recruit, conduct interviews, and seek potential hires. Remember to bring several resume copies.
Free parking is available at the college. Metro bus route 105 also serves the college.
This annual event is in partnership with the city, Renton Technical College, Renton Chamber of Commerce, Puget Sound Training Center, and other sponsors and partnerships to create valuable opportunities for individuals to explore Renton's diverse workforce.
