Recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Renton
During Monday night's council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated April 8 Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Renton. To accept the proclamation was the newly appointed CEO of King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC), Kate Kurg.
KCSARC is a non-profit located in Renton and has been serving the communities of Renton and King County since 1976.
"Half of women and one-third of men have experienced sexual assault in their lifetime. The trauma of sexual assault is something that can affect a survivor's mental, physical, and behavioral health, but recovery from the trauma of sexual assault is possible with support," stated KSCARC CEO Kate Kurg.
In 2023, KSCARC assisted more than 4,800 individuals and their families. The organization offers free and confidential support for survivors and their families, whether it be therapy, resource lines, legal advocacy, or family support.
If you or someone you know has been the victim of a sexual assault, there are resources available:
Organizations like KSCARC give the opportunities and support needed for those suffering or who have experienced sexual assault.
