Thanks to all downtown area businesses that participated in the Storefront Design & Lighting Seminar held on February 22, 2024. Cohosted by the City's Economic Development Division and Renton Downtown Partnership, the seminar featured presentations from Front door Back, a nationally-recognized consulting firm, on best practices for storefront set-up and displays. Best lighting practices--inside and outside--provided building blocks for business owners to create great curb appeal, increase storefront visibility, and improve safety throughout Downtown Renton. We're excited to see how the seminar's ideas are used to improve our local small businesses and their storefronts.

The Community Accelerator Grant application is open from February 5 to March 5, 2024. An upcoming webinar in January will detail eligibility and the application process. Grants are anticipated to be distributed by June 30, 2024. this program, overseen by a diverse Community Advisory Panel announced in December, is designed to empower Washington State's arts and cultural sector by allowing organizations to self-determine fund utilization, fostering inclusivity and overall growth.
The Small Business Administration (SBA) has introduced a Goodwill Exception Period until March 3, 2024, for PPP loan borrowers with amounts under $100,000 to facilitate forgiveness applications. After March 4, 2024, defaulted loans in this category will be referred to the U.S. Treasury Department and IRS for collection. PPP loan forgiveness is still available, and the SBA encourages attendance at webinars on February 23 and February 27 for more information.
