A favorite tradition of Renton River Days is the parade. This year’s parade, "Where Community Grows," is sponsored by Brotherton Cadillac.
Parade participants represent the Renton River Days Festival's family, child, and senior-friendly nature and provide entertainment for parade spectators.
Individuals, businesses or organizations interested in participating can apply online by July 10. There is a $25 registration fee.
Renton River Days runs from Friday, July 21, through Sunday, July 23. This celebration of Renton will include family-friendly activities at Liberty Park, Henry Moses Aquatic Center, Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center, and Renton Community Center.
Check out the official Renton River Days webpage to get the daily schedule of events.

New garbage cans improve public cleanliness
There is a new type of garbage can on S Third Street from Rainier Avenue S to Shattuck Avenue S.
The new cans feature a vending machine-style locking mechanism, so garbage cans no longer be removed and left on the sidewalk where it can be spread across the city.

The new cans are easier for Republic Services drivers to empty it, and return the liner to the container.
The design evolved from the Bear Saver, originally designed to prevent bears in park settings from similarly sorting and distributing the contents. King County Metro adapted the design, tested it, and has seen a significant reduction in spilled trash. Less spilled trash also allows city public works staff, Metro, and Republic Services crews to spend more time cleaning other areas of the other city.
The artwork is uniquely Renton and a collaboration between solid waste program manager Meara Heubach and graphic designer Sheila Cowley. The theme is simple: Feeding the can keeps the spread of litter from our city and protects our fish and wildlife.

Free lunches for children–all summer long
