Hi everyone,

The Renton Downtown Partnership has exciting news to share! They started a weekly newsletter dedicated to highlighting the fun events and opportunities in downtown Renton. We encourage everyone to subscribe to the listserv by visiting http://eepurl.com/g2SNrb.

Businesses can submit their events and opportunities to the newsletter by emailing RDP@gorenton.com.

The 20th season of the Renton Farmers Market will come to a close on September 28. You have one more chance to visit the market and stock up on the foods and crafts from the local vendors before the market returns next season. Up to 10-hours of free parking is still available at the City Center Parking Garage while you’re visiting the market or shopping at the local stores that are open year-around.

CURRENT CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN RENTON

1. Rebuilding the northside intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S

We are continuing our intersection work on the northside of S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S. We’re building the forms that will hold the concrete mixture and plan to start pouring concrete next week.

Concrete pours are weather dependent and may be rescheduled. Concrete plants are also currently experiencing high demand regionally, which can intensify any weather-related delays.

Two-way cul-de-sacs will continue to be in place to maintain local access to homes and businesses leading up to the intersection closure.

 This work is weather dependent.

Crews building forms for curbs and gutters.

Before pouring concrete, crews build the forms that will hold the concrete mixture. Rebar is installed inside the form to reinforce the concrete structure.

2. Ground pavement on S 2nd St, S 3rd St, and Wells Ave S

We’re continuing minor work on S 2nd St and S 3rd St between Main Ave S and Burnett Ave S. Landscapers may continue to work on the irrigation in preparation for planting trees and other vegetation in the fall. Through traffic on both S 2nd St and S 3rd St will continue to be reduced to a single-lane to avoid confusion at the all-way stops.

Drivers will experience bumpier and louder roads on S 2nd St, S 3rd St, and Wells Ave S since our recent grinding work to create a level surface for future new pavement. In mid-October, we plan to apply new pavement to the recently ground roads on S 2nd St, S 3rd St, and Wells Ave S. We will keep you up to date as we learn more.

3. Stormwater work on S 3rd St

Stormwater utility installation on S 3rd St will continue the week of September 27, moving east between Shattuck Ave S and Smithers Ave S. Work will concentrate on the north side of S 3rd St for installation of the storm main, and move between the north and south sides of the street as crews make connections between the main line and storm drains. A travel lane will be maintained on either the north or south side of the street. Daytime intersection closures at Morris Ave S and Whitworth Ave S may be necessary, in which case a detour to Shattuck Ave S and S 4th St will be in place. Street parking will be affected; alternate parking is available in the City Center Parking Garage. This phase of work is expected to last into mid-October.

4. Utility work on Houser Way S

We’re continuing to install storm and sewer utilities on Houser Way S at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S.  After the utility work, we plan to remove and install new curb and gutter.

During work hours, we’ll maintain pedestrian access at three of the four corners and flaggers will be onsite to help people navigate the area. We plan to reopen all four corners at the end of the day.

Expect traffic on Wells Ave S and Williams Ave S to be reduced to one lane at Houser Way S throughout the project.

5. Sewer on Whitworth Ave S

Work continues with sewer utility improvements on Whitworth Ave S between S 2nd and S 3rd streets. The road will be closed during daytime work hours, opening again each evening. Street parking will be closed along Whitworth Ave S throughout the duration of this work. Alternate parking is available in the City Center Parking Garage. We anticipate the sewer work in Whirtworth Ave S to be complete by the end of the week of September 27.

UPCOMING WORK

Stormwater work on Whitworth Ave S

After completion of the stormwater utility installation on S 3rd St, construction crews will shift to the stormwater utility work on Whitworth Ave S in mid-October. This work is expected to continue into early November.

Sewer on S 2nd St

After completion of the sewer installation in Whitworth Ave S, construction will begin on the sewer main in S 2nd St and move west. This work is expected to begin the week of October 4 and last into November. The two southmost lanes of S 2nd St will be closed for portions of this work. Detours will be in place for access to cross streets (Morris, Whitworth, Shattuck avenues), as needed.
